About this data
Monthly enplaned passengers, outbound air freight, and departures for
Anchorage and Fairbanks from BTS T-100 Segment data (all carriers, all
service classes). ANC is one of the world's top-five cargo airports —
CY2025: 2.71M enplanements and 2.91M short tons of outbound freight —
and this is the demand-side pair to the FAA OPSNET activity counts.
Known issues & gotchas
- **The old plan pointed at data.transportation.gov — that domain has no
aviation data** (3 non-aviation assets, verified). data.bts.gov is the
home.
- Freight and mail are POUNDS — converted to short tons (÷2000) at
parse; publishing raw pounds is the classic 2000× error.
- All Socrata numeric fields arrive as JSON strings;
reporting_month
is a floating timestamp — parse the date part, never timezone-shift.
- The mirror refreshes irregularly (observed ~6.5 weeks stale) on
top of T-100's ~3-month production lag — freshness expectations are
deliberately loose (grace 120); a 4-5 month-old max month is normal.
- Service classes F/G/L/P are all in the roll-up — never "clean" by
filtering classes, that breaks the cross-check. ~72% of ANC freight is
scheduled all-cargo, ~28% charter.
- FAI cargo is charter-driven and genuinely spiky (20× range observed:
0.4M–11.2M lb/month) — bounds are wide on purpose.
- Socrata mirror history starts 2014-01. A 1990–2013 deep backfill
exists at TranStats via a session-cookied DL_SelectFields.aspx POST
(table FMG) — one-time manual job, queued with the steward.
- No app token needed at ~2 requests/month;
$limit=50000a
