Crude production in Alaska

About this data

Monthly Alaska crude oil production — the volume side of the state's fiscal engine. Two series: Alaska total (MCRFPAK2) and the North Slope subset (MANFPAK2), both in thousand barrels per day. North Slope production is nearly identical to TAPS throughput, so this is the clean-API cross-check and backfill source for alyeska_taps_throughput. Energy-family dataset filed under oil_gas alongside the other EIA energy briefs.

Known issues & gotchas

• Access via the v2 legacy route https://api.eia.gov/v2/seriesid/{ID}?api_key=... — simplest for known v1 IDs. Equivalent native v2 route is petroleum/crd/crpdn/data/ with facets[duoarea][]=SAK; if the seriesid shim is ever retired, switch to that. Verify the response's series/facet columns at build time.
• Response shape: response.data[] with period ("YYYY-MM") and value fields; JSON responses cap at 5,000 rows — full history per series is ~800 rows, so one request each, but paginate defensively with length/offset.
• Units are thousand barrels/day (e.g. 428 = 428,000 bbl/d). A related ID MANFPAK1 is thousand barrels per month — don't mix them up.
• Alaska total history reaches back to 1960 on the dnav page; North Slope starts 1981. Confirm the API returns the same depth at build time.
• ~2-month publication lag: the newest observation is always about two months old. Don't confuse lag with staleness.
• Values are numeric strings in JSON ("428") — cast explicitly.
