About this data
Quarterly financials for every FDIC-insured bank chartered in Alaska, via the FDIC BankFind Suite API. Only five banks are AK-chartered — First National Bank Alaska, Northrim Bank, First Bank (Ketchikan), Mt. McKinley Bank (Fairbanks), and Denali State Bank (Fairbanks) — so this is a small, clean panel of assets, deposits, and lending that complements the credit-union data for a full picture of Alaska depository institutions. Headline series: total assets and deposits per bank and statewide.
Known issues & gotchas
- The documented host 301-redirects:
banks.data.fdic.gov/api/...now redirects tohttps://api.fdic.gov/banks/...(verified 2026-08-06). The redirect currently works transparently for clients that follow redirects, but build the connector againstapi.fdic.gov/banks(or follow redirects explicitly) and watch for the old host being retired. - Amounts are in thousands of dollars — a classic unit mixup. FNBA's ASSET of 5,083,974 is $5.08B, not $5M.
STALP:AK= chartered in Alaska, not operating in Alaska. Out-of-state banks with big AK footprints (Wells Fargo, KeyBank, Glacier Bank's First National-competitor branches) are invisible here. This series is "Alaska's home-grown banks," not "banking in Alaska" — for AK deposit market share including outside banks, use the/api/sodendpoint filtered on branch state instead.- Bank count is small and stable (5), but any merger/acquisition of an AK charter would drop an institution — alert if the quarterly institution set changes.
- The API paginates (default limit is small); pass
limitexplicitly and page if pulling full history.
