Monthly Alaska electricity: retail sales and average prices by sector (EIA-861M) and net generation by fuel (EIA-923). Alaska's retail prices run roughly double the U.S. average, and the Railbelt's dependence on Cook Inlet gas makes the generation fuel mix a live policy story. Energy-family dataset filed under oil_gas for consistency with the other EIA energy briefs, even though it edges toward economy/prices territory.
Known issues & gotchas
- Native v2 routes, no legacy seriesid. Retail:
electricity/retail-sales/data/?api_key=...&frequency=monthly&data[0]=price&data[1]=sales&data[2]=revenue&facets[stateid][]=AK(sectors arrive assectoridrows: RES, COM, IND, TRA, OTH, ALL). Verify both facet names at build. - Units: retail
salesis million kWh (= GWh); generation is thousand MWh (= GWh). Same magnitude, different labels — record the-unitsfields the API returns. - Alaska is excluded from EIA's hourly grid monitor (EIA-930) — no hourly Railbelt demand exists from EIA; monthly is as good as it gets.
- Generation facets include
fueltypeid(e.g. NG, WAT, PEL/DPV distinctions, COW, WND, SUN) andsectorid— requestALLsector or aggregate carefully to avoid double counting (99 = all sectors in some routes). Record actual facet values at build. - Alaska's "industrial" price is unusual — it *exceeds* residential (small, remote industrial loads), unlike every Lower-48 pattern. Not a data error.
- Row volume: AK monthly since 2001 acros
