About this data
Monthly count of Alaska payroll jobs (Current Employment Statistics) — the "jobs number." Payroll-survey based, so it counts jobs at establishments, complementing LAUS's household-survey employment. Headline: total nonfarm, ~354k in June 2026. Statewide, 2001+.
Known issues & gotchas
- The documented bulk file is STALE:
ces/csv/ces_010000000.csvstill serves but ends at 2021 (discovered 2026-08-06). Current data lives in per-series chart CSVs:/labforce/csv/{areacode}/{areatype}/{seriescode}/AKlaborforce-area-industry.csv— statewide total nonfarm =000000/01/00000000. - Mixed sections in one file: annual block (title +
Employment,Yearheader) then monthly block (title +Employment,Year,"Month Period"header). Parse by field count / regex per line, not one CSV read. - Employment values are quoted with thousands separators (
"354,000"). - Industry-level series exist behind other seriescodes in the URL path (old bulk file listed ~33 industries; codes are 8-digit, zero-padded). Deferred — enumerate codes when we add industry detail, or use BLS
SMUseries with an API key. - Regional files (6 economic regions) exist under areatype 60 paths — deferred with industry detail.
